Working Out VS. Training

Movement of any kind can serve its benefits and be good for your body! When I was an athlete, we always were in training mode and had specific training programs we did and stuck with for a certain length of time to help us develop skills, build strength, stamina and prepare us for a long season of competitions. We often see athletes of any sport or people that have a specific physical goal they want to achieve, follow a training program. 

There is a difference between working out vs training! 

Working out is exercising and moving your body to keep active and stay fit. You do it more for the post workout feeling and to keep your body healthy. You don’t track your progress, you don’t really have any specific goals or little to none accountability. Many times, a week of working out can look like a bunch of random exercises where you engage in any movement pattern. 

Training is goal specific with a customized program in place to help you reach your goals. You or your trainer have selected certain exercises for days in the week that you want to stick with for the entire program. Depending on what your goal is (building strength, growing muscle, losing fat) you can make progress in your training by increasing weights and reducing reps, increasing volume or even moving into a more advanced exercise. You track your progress whether that’s in the form of weighing yourself, marking down how much you go up in weights/reps, progress pics, measuring different areas of your body (e.g. thigh, bust, waist, etc) or seeing how your clothes fit! There is direction with where you want to go when it comes to training.
